Redbrook Angling Club has been in existence since 2004, when we were very kindly granted a lease for the fishing rights on parts of the River Wye in Redbrook and Penallt by the local fishery owners. The club is run by a committee of local anglers, who wished to take advantage of some of the UK premier game and coarse fishing on their door step by forming a contused non profit angling club. The club is open to anglers who are residents, ex residents, employees, ex employees of business or business that work or have worked in the Redbrook, Clearwell, Newland and Penallt areas. Senior members are able to enjoy a year's game and coarse fishing for a membership subscription of £35 at joining, £25 for each following year and junior membership for the under 18's, is free. Fishing is restricted to members only and day tickets/permits are not available and therefore cannot be purchased on the bank. The clubs waters on the banks Wye in Redbrook and Penallt consist of a number of salmon pools, a good mix of different fast and slow water coarse fishing swims, the fishing of which are all subject to the club, Natural Resources Wales & Environment Agency close seasons and bylaws. The River Wye in Redbrook is home to a number of different native species such as Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Carp, Chub, Dace, Pike, Roach, Perch, Bream, Eels and Barbel.
The Club has a wide range of objectives which benefit anglers, the local community and the local environment these are;
1. To provide the facilities of an angling club for the villages of Redbrook, Penallt, Newland and Clearwell. 2. To promote Coarse and Game angling on waters licensed by the Club on the River Wye at Redbrook. 3. To preserve fish stocks and protect the environment. 4. To promote fair angling and to cultivate good feeling within the local community. 5. To protect the rights of anglers and the property of the Club and of the fishery owners. 6. To encourage junior angling.
Currently the club has just under 50 members ranging in age from 4 to 80 +, of all different levels of ability, skill, determination, patience and luck! One of the most successful and visible things the Club does which is funded from members subscription monies and from Redbrook Village Trust, is the free fishing taster day event for juniors each summer . The club organises the event which includes a professional coach at a local lake for juniors to try fishing, free of charge with all equipment, bait, tackle and licences paid for.
On previous events over 24 youngsters have attended the day, all sat still and caught fish, much to their parents and teachers disbelief. This event also involves environment education, water craft and water safety as well as providing an insight into a hobby away from the play station and we already have an event booked for this summer. In addition each year to settle local rivalry, the competitiveness of members and to prove who is the best local angler or who has the biggest or longest fish, the club also holds a number of fun competitions and events for members each year, such as the Dainty Challenge, our yearly coarse fishing competition and a Mac's trophy for the largest Game fish recorded each year. So if you are interested in joining Redbrook Angling club and enjoying some fishing on a river that was voted by readers of the Angling Times recently the Best River In The UK, please give me a call.
